Compre and Contrast of Shawshank Redemption

PLOT
The plot of the movie Shawshank Redemption and the book Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption
have more similarities then differences.  sequence of events that are important are Red get imprisoned. Andy getting arrested comes to Shawshank were Red meets him. After a wile Andy asks red for a rock hammer around the time "the sisters" take an interest to him. Red gets it for him later on Andy asks for a poster of Rita Hayworth. When Red and Andy get on the roofing team Andy Talks to the guard about finances and ends up working in the library. Andy's main focus is expanding the library when Tommy comes along and tells him he know the guy who is responsible for Andy's punishment. When the warden refuses to let Andy go he loses all hope. A couple years later Red is let out and trys to cope with the world he is in then decides to look for Andy. The differences are the years are i bit different and the the wardens do not change. also some differences are the names of the women on the poster and the number of rock hammers Andy used.

POINT OF VIEW
The story and the movie are both Reds point of view from what he knows personally and from what information he gathers from others. It is not an all knowing point of view. The fact that is not an all knowing point of view does not mean there is a lack of information. however there are a lot of unknowns at the end and a lot of guesses.Having a one sided point of view makes it seem more real like. In the book it is this way because as we find out Red has actually written book about it and that is why we are reading it.(p.100) In the movie i do not remember it saying why the story was being told.

CHARACTERIZATION
Like the other topics i am writing about the movie and the book are along most of the same lines. The way in which the writer portrays the characters is honest unto them self's. None of the characters go against themselves. Andy is a man who is a man with a scenes of freedom and hope in much of the story ad only loses it for a little wile. Red is an man who has been in prison to long and who knows the value of reputation. Also red values what he does in the prison society. All of the wardens are selfish greedy men who would stop at nothing for their money til caught. The whole prison population seems to follow the motto ill scratch your back if you scratch mine. It even shows how the men become depended on those walls that at first you hates then you love s basically what red says in the movie after Brooks died.

SETTING
The Setting is in Shawshank prison. It has a license-plate factory big industrial laundry and big automotive garage. Shawshank was built "back in 1934" (p.92). And by the time the story begins it is 1948.(p.18) It start in a square yard "it's a perfect square, ninety yard on a side" (p.27). It was when Andy comes up to red the first time to ask about the rock hammer. This is the spot that Red normally does his business. Most if not all of  this is also true to the movie as well. The setting defines this whole story with out this setting the story would not make since. Also without this setting i believe that there would be no story.

THEME
The movie and the short shory have the same exact themes. One of the main themes is how the men deal with the imprisonment during and how they are so use to it that they hate the outside world. On page 49 talks about Brooks Hatlen who is an example of the theme pure and simple "he was crying when he left. Shawshank was his world". In the movie Brooks threatens to kill someone to stay in prison. On page 32 it talks about "the sisters" and why it is they do what they do and about men who have somewhat the same fancy as the sisters. It also deals with this theme when red talks about his life after he is realised and before he starts his search for Andy who is now Peter. Also shows this theme in the book when Andy reads brooks letter. Another theme in the story is hope. with hope Andy was able to live his years moderately happy because he had hope he would get out. After the warden and him had their argument Andy lost some of that hope but got it back as unknown to anyone he was about to escape. Hope also show in the last few lines of the story where Red is hoping to find "Peter" and a life down there. (p107) In the movie this is shown when Andy is talking to red and gives him the harmonica and before that with the guys wile they are eating.

And thats all she wrote about Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption

Plot
the plot of Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is fast paced and organized in a way that makes things more interesting.   sequence of events that are important are Red get imprisoned. Andy getting arrested comes to Shawshank were Red meets him. Marriage of True Minds

Sonnet 116 is about what true love truly is. Love never goes away "an everfixed mark". Love can be measured but not in how much it means. "whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken." Love does not change when its convenient. "love is not love which alters when it alteration finds". Love withstands til the end of time. "love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, but bears it out even to the edge of doom".

I believe this message is true. True love may not happen all the time, may be hard to find, and even if a person finds it they can not keep it but it does exist. A movie that shows this is sense and sensibility were Maryann's love isn't to be but she still loves him after what he does. I have strong doughs that this will ever be true for me but i have seen it with Mel and her husband. Mel and her husband have been through a lot together and have never falter to far away from each other. My Aunt Mary and Uncle Denny are another example though they have both been previously married they are now in a relationship were nothing would break them apart. They have been tested with family problems on both sides of the family and have made it through with the same amount of love as they started with.

A Story with Rhythm.

Inside the Fire by Disturbed

whats it about?

Before the song starts a man finds that the woman he is in a relationship with has committed suicide. The song in its self is about the devil trying to convince the grieving man to take his live to be with her.The devils agreement is that if the man doesn't do this he will never be with her again.

Why is it ballad material?

This song is considered a ballad because it is a story about the murderous act of suicide. One characteristic of a ballad it has is dramatization of a single incident. The song starts after the women committed suicide and during the mans grief of losing her. It also has the characteristic of having dialogue. The person singing is the devil which is a character of the story who is talking to the grieving man. This song is also based on actual events which is yet another characteristic of a ballad. The sad truth is suicide happens more often then it should. The singer of the band knows this all to well from personal experience of losing a loved one to it.

Devon
Won't go to heaven
She's just another lost soul,
About to be mine again
Leave her We will receive her
It is beyond your control
Will you ever meet again

Devon
No longer living
Who had been rendered unwhole
As a little child,
She was taken
And then forsaken
You will remember it all
Let it blow your mind again

Devon lies beyond this portal
Take the word of one immortal

Give your soul to me
For eternity
Release your life
To begin another time with her
End your grief with me
There's another way
Release your life
Take your place inside the fire with her

Sever
Now and forever
You're just another lost soul about to be mine again
See her, you'll never free her
You must surrender it all
Would you like to meet again

Fire
All you desire
As she begins to turn cold and run out of time,
You will shiver
Till you deliver
You will remember it all
Let it blow your mind again

Devon lies beyond this portal
Take the word of one immortal

Give your soul to me
For eternity
Release your life
To begin another time with her
End your grief with me
There's another way
Release your life
Take your place inside the fire with her

Give your soul to me
For eternity
Release your life
To begin another time with her
End your grief with me
There's another way
Release your life
Take your place inside the fire with her

Devon
No longer living
Who had been rendered unwhole
As a little child
She was taken,
And then forsaken
You will remember it all
Let it blow your mind again

"they say a hero can save us"

The literary hero a chose to write about is Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility. Colonel Brandon  is loyal, kind, and understanding. in the book Colonel Brandon offers Edward Farris a living after his family disowns him because of the person he was engaged to. He didn't know Edward Farris but sympathised with the situation Edward was in.

My personal hero is a woman who's like family to me, her name is Melinda. Melinda was my moms friend in high school. She is a loving, loyal, dependable, caring, and strong of mind individual. She is always there when i need her. For example when i was upset with my aunt Angie, she was a phone call away with advise and comfort. Also when i was in need of money and an escape she was the one who offered for me to babysit and a place to stay for the weekend. Melinda is a hero among a bunch of villains in my life and I'm happy to call her that.

Doctors without borders are the main heros in this blog. They go to other counteries to save lives of pople who can't get to a ficility for help and can't aford it. They risk there health and comfort just to save lifes. Thats more then what most people would do. They go above and beyond to save lives wich makes them the greatist heros of all.
